Some exciting news to share — our photos of the Pollywog Station Lavender Farm made the front cover of Parker City Lifestyle and were featured inside the article, too. It was such a joy to capture this beautiful place, and seeing the images featured like this feels incredibly special.
Competing with others makes you bitter, competing with yourself makes you better!
I love to look at pictures and to look at the unique ideas other photographers come up with. Their beautiful pictures of a sunrise or a mountain range, the funny pictures they take of their pets… and so on. But sometimes it frustrated me to see how much better they are than I am.
Being huddled up inside, under a warm blanket, drinking hot chocolate all day becomes boring after a while, and unfortunately hibernating doesn’t work for me like it does for brown bears – I don’t lose weight, I gain it.
A couple of weeks ago, I had the opportunity to participate in a presentation that promoted the Godox Flash system. The presenter, Sherry Hagerman is the owner of Allusion Photography from Oakbrook, IL, one of the top wedding photography companies in the United States. She first explained and demonstrated the flash system and then walked us through the process of setting up the speed lights and how to set our cameras.
Inspired by the Dolce & Gabanna (D&G) annual Fashion Show in Como, Italy, my local photo meet up group hosted its very own masquerade fashion show at the Mayslake Peabody Estate.
We spend an afternoon at the estate photographing models in extravagant costumes designed and created by two of the members.
It was a bit quiet on my website this summer, mainly because I had a fun filled time… filled with great experiences, amazing vacations, exciting camps, city and museum trips, a leadership summit, and visitors from Germany and Connecticut… and while busy it sure was awesome.
This months I want to share some of the pictures I took while we were on our family vacation in California.
There is this saying,
“Leave nothing but footprints, and take nothing but pictures.”
of course that speaks to my photographer’s heart, and so that’s what I did, a lot. Over 1,000 🙂
We spent the first part of our time in San Francisco marveling at the ocean, the other part in the Sierra Nevada Mountains enjoying Lake Tahoe.
Here are some of my favorite shots from my latest photo shoot
– The Vintage Fashion Photo Shoot at Mayslake Peabody Estate in Oak Brook, IL
with the Naperville Photo Group.
Last year I participated in several year-long challenges to – yes, you guessed it – challenge myself.
One of the challenges was a 52-week photography challenge held by a Facebook group for Photographers.
There were no cash prices. Instead, your picture could be picked to be the header of our Facebook page for a week, and then you would select the next week’s winner.
I was never selected as the winner, but I submitted all 52 pictures.
Some weeks it was easy to submit a picture, other weeks I had to work hard to get a decent shot – and some weeks I almost ripped out my hair because I could not come up with one decent picture.
So, why would I do such a thing?
